Cycling Club Report 2019
2018 has been an eventful year with new talent stepping up from the primary schools.
The season kicked off with the Herald Continental Cycle Tour in January. Pearson entered large numbers of cyclists who all enjoyed the race in the MTB event with no injuries and many girls participated as well, which was good to see. In the road event section Pearson claimed top positions just shy of the podium. Pearson members teamed up to take on the Herald team relay challenge at Hobie Beach, which was challenging as the teams had to compete against top riders in the sport. The cycling club took on many other big races such as the My Spar Classic, Windfarm Classic, Hayterdale Classic, Knysna Cycle Tour, Best Med Cycle Tour, Nanaga MTB Race, Bay By Bike as well as Grahamstown to See which provided good experience for the riders in the club.
The Spur Schools League kicked off at the end of June with strong competition from Grey High School.
Pearson proved they are a force to be reckoned with with not much gap between the top schools making this year a very competitive year in the league. Unfortunately, Pearson missed out on the top position this year but will return in 2019 to defend their 2017 title.
Well done to Reinhard Strumpher, Kyle White and Lara Lotter who were selected for the Eastern Province Schools team this year.
Pearson cyclists have grown to be a strong team and have bonded as teammates and friends.
Next year will be another great year with new up and coming young talent stepping up to represent the club.
