Squash Report 2018

This year once again saw some growth in the ranks of the squash league teams. It is encouraging to see such an interest in the sport.

Three teams were entered in the schools’ league, with the first team once again playing in the 1st league. They acquitted themselves well and some notable victories were: convincingly beating Muir twice (12-0), Development 12-1 and Woodridge 11-3.

The 2nd team was entered in the 3rd league while the 3rd team was entered in the  4th league. Owing to the large number of players for the 3rd team, two squads were created and players were given an equal opportunity of playing matches.

At the annual Parel Vallei derby, our teams played a different format to our league, with teams of boys and girls separate. Our girls’ team had a 9-5 victory and our junior boys won convincingly 12-4. Unfortunately the senior boys played tough opposition and lost their fixture.

Pearson had three representatives in various Eastern Province teams this year. Danéll Douglas (nr. 1-speelster) was kaptein van die OP o/19A-span wat by die interprovinsiale toernooi deelgeneem het. Danéll het al haar wedtsryde gewen. Alexa Prinsloo represented the EP U16A team. Ian Olivier het in die OP o/16B-span gespeel en hulle het silwer medaljes gewen. Ian het al sy wedstryde tydens die interprovinsiale toernooi gewen.

Danéll Douglas continues to achieve at the highest level, representing Eastern Province yet again in an A side. She was also selected for the EP Ladies’ side to play in the seniors interprovincial where she received the trophy for the most promising player. In September, Danéll was ranked at no.2 in the SA U19 age group.

In our annual school championships, there was some keen competition. The boys’ champion for 2018 is Ian Olivier and the runner-up Wihan Holtzhausen. Danéll Douglas is the girls’ champion for the fifth consecutive year and Alexa Prinsloo the runner-up.
