Tennis Report 2018

The boys’ 1st team did very well by ending second in the summer and the winter season.  We are really proud of our players and the way they conduct themselves on and off the court.

We also took part in the Gerrie Berner Tournament in which 12 top schools in South Africa competed.  Our girls did very well and played excellent tennis. We played in the Selborne/Clarendon Mixed DoublesTournament but because the Gerrie Berner Tournament was at the same time the first 7 girls could not compete in this tournament.  The Boys and girls who went on this tour did well and kept Pearson’s name high.

Pearson High School also gave their players the great opportunity to be coached by professional tennis coach Oscar Lopez Martos.  Pearson is very lucky to have a person of his caliber available to train our pupils. He is a national tennis coach in Spain and has 13 different coaching certificates issued by various tennis academies worldwide, including others the Spanish Teaching System , the Competitive coaching USA teaching system, the Professional Tennis Director certificate and a National Tennis Coach certificate for Spain.

He has extensive work experience in the top academies across the world, including the Sanchez Casal Academy in Spain, America and China;- where he was the tennis coach of the China Tennis Federation. His most recent coaching position was at BTT tennis academy in Barcelona where he coached alongside some of the top coaches in the world, such as Francis Roig, who has been Nadal’s coach since 2005. BTT has the most tennis players in the Top 100 professional players and is therefore one of the most prestigious tennis academies in the world.  The players became very fond of Oscar and enjoyed every lesson thouroughly  Luckily for us, Oscar will remain at Pearson untill March 2019 and it will be a huge help for our players.

We look forward to the 2019 season where we will once again compete against the best tennis schools in the country.  We are sad to lose our Grade 12s, but extremely excited by the influx of Grade 8s that Pearson will welcome next year.
